Summer is finally here so its time to get your entry's in for this years GVC Mountain Biking Tour of Guernsey!! This year there won't be a spcial theme to make things simpler but still keeping the fun events along side the more serious side of racing, its hard to please everyone but we hope that this year's event will be just as good!
To kick of the week in the Guernsey Tour of Guernsey the first stage will be held at Talbot Valley (waiting for confirmation), the first event of the week is a mini enduro. Unsure what an enduro is the read on...
Enduro in its most basic definition is a type of mountain bike racing where the downhills are timed, and the uphills are mandatory but not timed. Riders are timed in stages that are primarily downhill, with neutral "transfer" stages in between. The transfer stages usually must be completed within a time-limit, but are not part of the accumulated time.
Basically there will be three stages that are timed and a small pedal to the next stage. We will run the same stages twice and your total time will be recorded to find the winner of the day in each category.
Dual slalom is an older mountain bike racing discipline similar to 4x racing. It consists of two racers racing two almost identical tracks next to each other down a slope. The courses are usually short; one run lasting about 30 seconds. Both riders' times are taken and then they switch tracks for another round, whereafter the combined times are counted and slowest rider is eliminated. The winner moves on to the next round until they have 2 riders left racing in the final.
A mountain bike criterium is generally a short fast circuit with only slight elevation so channel your inner Nino Schurter get groove on and get those legs spinning!
Fourth round of the Tour of Guernsey will be a mountain bike Downhill/Hill Climb at a top secret location, we will revel the location closer to the time but its going to be a new venue. So have those legs ready to smash the hill climb and hone those skills to descend like a demon!
Penultimate race before the big XC, special time trail to be held at yet another top secret location. One not to missed as you dont always get to ride at this venue... more detail to follow!
Final day has arrived but before we get to relax and unwind at the Last Post for the BBQ & presentation we need to finish on the legendary Cross Country race.... more details and venue confirmation to follow
