A note from the membership secretary
Welcome to all of you who are not members of the Guernsey Velo Club. The club is well aware that this site is accessed by people who may be interested in racing but are afraid to ask. Well don’t be… This is a club open to people of both sexes and all abilities. You don’t have to be the next Lance Armstrong or Jez Avery to be in the Guernsey Velo Club.
The club puts on a whole spectrum of events throughout the year, from downhilling, time trials, cross country (mountain bike racing), road racing and circuit racing. Some of the events as you may have noticed on this site often take place off Island, sometimes Herm or Sark.
Potential new members
As membership secretary I would just like to spend some time to give some guidelines of what you need to do to take part in any cycling event that is put on by the Guernsey Velo Club. A potential new member shall be eligible to 2 races for a fee of £5 (£2.50 for under 18’s), which will not qualify him or her for any club awards. If the potential new member is under 18 years of age, then a parent or guardian will need to sign them on prior to that race at the venue. Entries for a race close 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. Any subsequent race in that membership year will require the full subscription applicable to be paid and all necessary forms to be filled in prior to that subsequent race.
Riders visiting the Island
Visiting riders who are full claim members of another cycling club may compete in up to 5 Club events for a fee of £5 per race. No club awards may be won by a visiting rider.
For road events over 25 miles there is a princely sum of £1 charged to senior and veteran riders per race. This is to offset the cost of Special Constables, sometimes used to man the more difficult junctions.
The membership year runs from 1st March to the last day of February the following year. Members joining after 31st July will be charged 50% of their relevant fee.
The above sounds all very complicated, but it is not really.
