 80 For Haiti - Please support this event.
One of our members approached the club regarding organising a ride to raise money for the Haiti earthquake vicitms. We thought it to be a good idea so we are looking to put on a charity ride on the 21st Feb. The ride will be called `80 for Haiti`. In short an 80 mile or 80 km ride to raise (if possible ) £80 per rider. If you do not wish to participate that is fine, but I hope most of you will. So we are proposing the following:
The event will only be open to GVC members or those on my League of Gentlemen emailing list and perhaps the a few others who think they can cope with a ride of this nature.
It will be essentially an unsupported event, so no children or beginners. We are happy to stage the event but with as little help and input from the club as is possible.
I will provide 2 courses; 80 miles and 80 km. A simple route for both. Start at Vazon, south to L`Eree Hotel, up the hill, St Martins, Les Val des Terres, St Sampsons, Bordeaux, Vale Ch etc...a loop of 20.5 miles. 4 laps (80 miles) or 2 laps plus a trip down to Pleinmont and back (80 km or 50 miles).
We will go whatever the weather. Might change the direction of rotation if there is a howling SW gale.
Start time, not yet decided, but early, 7 - 7:30 am.
You will be expected to provide food and drink for yourselves, we may have a van at Vazon HQ to keep spare food and drinks in etc, but we expect you bring/carry whatever you may need to get around the course.
The charity we will support is ARC, Aid Reaching Children. Linda Garnham has provided help to areas such as Kosovo and Sri Lanka in the past. Here she is planning to assist with the build of an orphanage in Haiti.
I have attached a sponsorship form for you all to use. We would like you to bring ALL sponsorship money with you and will collect as you sign on for the ride.
We will need a few helpers if only to collect the money on the day and clock all riders back in after their ride, which could last for up to 6 hrs.
Is there time limit? Not sure, hopefully everybody will have completed their chosen course within a 6 hour period.
I will update you as we progress towards the event. If you have any questions just ask. This will be a real challenge for most of us and an opportunity to raise some money for people that need our support.
